Practice Development for Accounting Professionals
in Africa
The Upward Spiral Professionals Africa (USP Africa) is a community of progressively minded accounting firms who wish to benefit from best practice in developing a 21st-century practice from both each other and the members of USP’s Expert Partners who are based in the region of Africa.
Membership in USP Africa offers a series of value propositions that makes investing in membership a cost-neutral position for the firm in real terms with the combined expertise of Martin Bissett and James Molfetas at the helm.
The USP Africa Membership was established, after the successful launch of the Upward Spiral Professionals in the UK, to deliver what Martin Bissett in his 20+ years of working with the accounting profession, is often told that members of other 'clubs' are looking for, with the added bonus of being able to upgrade to certain special interest communities such as People, Fee Growth, Marketing, Technology etc as they desired.
USP Africa is a collaboration with Martin Bissett and James Molfetas bringing both their experience and expertise into the membership with James delivering regionally to accounting firms in Africa. The USP Africa Library has been specifically established to support accounting firms who are specifically based in the African region with over 500+ resources jointly from Martin and James accessible to members.
Access to The USP Library is available to firms who are not able to take advantage of in-person events and consultations through either The USP Community or Executive Memberships.
Membership to the USP Africa at whichever level of membership, is aimed at the hungry, proactive and caring accounting firm in Africa, irrespective of their size and irrespective of their African location.
For Firms Who Aspire Maximum Growth
For accounting firms who aspire to achieve maximum practice growth, beyond the Community and Executive Memberships, there is an Elite Membership level within the USP Africa Membership available to firms and organisations as they expand into six or seven-figure practices.
Aimed at accounting firms based in Africa, the Elite membership option includes in-person consulting with James Molfetas, access to Expert Partners, Area Exclusivity and inclusion at in-person events.
In addition to The Library, two levels of membership are available via the website here. However, Elite membership level is exclusively available with more emphasis on a one to one consultation lead basis and can be discussed with Martin Bissett directly via the email address below.

Founder of USP
Martin Bissett is the founder of the Upward Spiral Partnership (USP), the international consulting firm that specialises in enabling the accounting profession to win higher-end clients, create leaders from their ranks and save lives.
His professional purpose is to alert the accounting profession to the profound outcomes that their advisory expertise can create in the lives of their clients.
At the same time, he also alerts the accounting profession to the profound difficulties that can arise in the lives of their clients when they choose not to educate their clients about the impact that their advisory expertise can have.
The Upward Spiral Partnership is the 4th business Martin has played a key role in building and the first of his own.
In the first 5 years of USP, Martin has:
The outcome of Martin’s work is profitable new business for the practices he is engaged by, alongside the fine-tuning of teams of partners and emerging leaders who can develop new business by increasing their commercial awareness for themselves, without significant ongoing third party assistance.
Previously, Martin served 10 years as a director (appointed at age 26) on the board of a marketing consultancy firm serving the accounting profession. There, he held the responsibility for the growth of the client base including six of the U.K.’s top 30 accountancy firms.
He now coaches, mentors, speaks, trains and consults with accounting firms worldwide.
In total, he has worked with over 1800 firms of accountants and found it unnecessary to keep track of his contributions to the new business growth of those firms once it surpassed £500m collectively.
USP Regional Partner in Africa
James Molfetas is the founder of Regular Clients, a South African based internet marketing firm that specialises in helping the financial sector get ideal clients by leveraging the power of the internet.
His tale is an interesting one. He was forced to leave the accounting profession in 2011, essentially because he did not know how to replace the key accounts his practice lost during the recession.
He moved away from a financial career that spanned 30 years. He was a financial director in both private and listed companies as well as a partner in a 4-partner audit practice.
Fortunately, he immediately found his passion. Internet marketing, the process of selling goods and services online.
He realised, even then, the Internet was changing the way people would buy accounting services. The Covid-19 outbreak emphatically confirms the old ways of doing business have changed forever. He made it his mission to help progressive accountants adapt to the new online way of acquiring clients, stabilising their cash flow and expanding their businesses.
James has written 4 books on the subject. "Accounting Clients on tap" and "Regular Clients from LinkedIn - the accountants edition" have reached international number one best seller status.
He does regular webinars teaching his methods in South Africa, the UK, Canada and the United States.
USP Africa has no preference on the size of firm, service line offering and length of time in practice. It cares about having a membership that understands that you do well in practice and business by doing right by the client. It wants a group of professionals who reduce the stress caused to SMEs by their own lack of financial education.
To find out more about the full membership level, please contact Martin Bissett at martin@upwardspiralpartnership.co.uk and start a conversation.
